BIOGRAPHY
Sophie Hamer is a British-Australian Soprano based in Perth, and is studying under the tutelage of acclaimed Australian Mezzo-Soprano, Nicole Youl. Sophie is the proud recipient of The Amelia Joscelyne Memorial Scholarship with Melba Opera Trust in 2025, Australia’s premier scholarship program for promising young opera singers and repetiteurs.
Sophie’s Operatic Repertoire includes Ino Semele, Eccles (HIP Company - Australian Premiere) and Angelina ‘The Plaintiff’ Trial by Jury, Gilbert and Sullivan (Perth Symphonic Chorus). Sophie has appeared as a guest soloist with the Perth Symphonic Chorus (Fauré’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, and Goodall’s Invictus: A Passion - Australian Premiere), and for West Australian Opera (Enchanted Encounters - Songs of the Supernatural).
Sophie recently achieved her Bachelor of Music in Classical Vocal Performance the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), where she studied under the tutelage of renowned Australian Soprano, Emma Matthews AM. Sophie’s WAAPA credits include Mabel The Pirates of Penzance, Gilbert and Sullivan, The Dew Fairy Hansel and Gretel, Humperdinck, Soprano Soloist Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen BWV 51, J.S. Bach, and Soprano Soloist Coronation Mass in C, W.A. Mozart.
Sophie is a current Young Artist with the Perth Symphonic Chorus, and has been a finalist in several competitions hosted by the Royal Overseas League, Opera Lovers WA, and WAAPA. Sophie is also a founding member of Perth Opera Voices, and ensemble of emerging singers with a mission to bring opera and theatre to regional Western Australia.
